1 arrested in Berkeley County chop shop bust

ST. STEPHEN, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person has been arrested and deputies in Berkeley County have recovered $200,000 in stolen vehicles in a "chop shop."

According to deputies, 46-year-old William Lucas was charged with operating the chop shop after officials found items on several motorcycles had been removed or modified.{}Deputies also found parts to a stolen enclosed trailer along with a truck that had been taken earlier from Orangeburg County.

Deputies said the arrest started with a tip that four stolen motorcycles were in St. Stephen. An NCIC check showed the motorcycles had been reported stolen, along with a pickup truck and an enclosed trailer, from a motel parking lot in Orangeburg County.{}

The approximate value of the motorcycles alone is $70,000.00.

TheBerkeley County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into the scopeof this chop shop operation.

Lucas is being held in the Berkeley County Jail.{}
