1 dead after early morning shooting

CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) --{} Police are searching for the person(s) they say may be responsible for the shooting death of a man early Thursday morning.

It happened near Hanover and Reid Streets in downtown Charleston.{} A spokesperson with the Charleston Police Department says a man was shot to death around 3 a.m.{}

Police responded after getting the call of shots fired to find the man dead on the scene when help arrived.

The victim has been identified by the Charleston County Coroner's Office as 23-year-old Maliek Byers. Officials with the coroner's office confirm he died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
