Police make arrest in fatal North Charleston stabbing
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A North Charleston woman surrendered to police Wednesday evening in connection to a fatal stabbing two days earlier.
According to police, 19-year-old Akara Edwards fatally stabbed Alex Whipple Monday. She has been charged with murder.
Police say the two were dating at the time of the incident.
According to North Charleston police, officers went to a Kent Street home to investigate a stabbing. Once there, Edwards told officers the victim showed up at her home, but she refused to go outside to meet him.
Edwards' resistance made the man angry, she told police, and Whipple started beating a vehicle with a hammer. That's when Edwards went outside to tell Whipple to leave, police said.
Edwards was carrying a kitchen knife when she went outside, police added.
According to police, Edwards said Whipple dropped the hammer and charged at her and was stabbed in the chest.
Police said Whipple died at the scene.
Edwards will go through bond court Thursday morning.
