1 injured when Lexington deputy's SUV flips

GASTON, S.C. (AP) -- One person has been injured after a crash involving a Lexington County sheriff's deputy.

Sheriff Lewis McCarty tells local media outlets that a deputy had his lights and siren on at around 7 p.m. Thursday while responding to a call in Gaston.

McCarty says another car hit the sheriff's department SUV, which then flipped over.

A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital, but McCarty says the injuries didn't appear to be serious.

The deputy's name has not been released, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
