1 killed, 5 injured in crash on Highway 17 Thursday

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person was killed and five others were injured Thursday night in a two-car crash on Highway 17 in Georgetown County.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol officials, the crash happened around 8 p.m. near the Highway 17 Bypass when a Chrysler sedan carrying a driver and four passengers crossed the center line and collided with a Chevy SUV.

Troopers say the driver of the sedan died.

The passengers of the sedan and the driver of the SUV were all taken to Grand Strand Medical Center for treatment, but officials did not have details on their conditions.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

Georgetown County's coroner has not released the name of the driver killed in the crash.
