11th annual Carolina Day set for SC Statehouse

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Alumni from all eight campuses of the University of South Carolina are slated to gather at the Statehouse in Columbia to speak with lawmakers about the school.

University spokeswoman Megan Sexton says the group is sponsored by the My Carolina Alumni Association. Sexton says the representatives intend to speak with lawmakers on Wednesday about USC President Harris Pastides' proposal for a "tuition timeout."

Pastides has proposed to put a freeze on student costs in exchange for some additional state funding from the lawmakers.

The day's schedule includes visits with selected Senate and House lawmakers as well as lunch and other events on the first floor of the Statehouse lobby.
