COLLETON, S.C. (WCIV) - A girl officials declared missing early Thursday morning said the girl had been found nearby in an abandoned house.

According to Colleton County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Ted Stanfield, the mother called the sheriff's office around 6:15 a.m. and said her 12-year-old daughter was waiting for the bus when the bus driver reported that the girl was not at the stop. However, her books were at the stop, officials said.{}

Stanfield said deputies searched the area and a "child is missing" alert was sent out over a 3.5 mile radius. There was no information involving a kidnapping or suspect vehicle, therefore, an Amber Alert could not be sent, deputies said.{}

Officials from Charleston County Sheriff's Office went to the area with a helicopter to assist with the search.

The child was reported found in an abandoned house near the area where she was reported missing around 8:45 a.m. Stanfield said she was interviewed and appeared to be "okay physically."

Sheriff Strickland said it appeared the girl ran away because she didn't want to go to school.
