SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Hundreds of new jobs are coming to suburban Charleston with the announcement of a $135 million medical complex in Summerville.
Palmetto Primary Care Physicians announced plans Monday for a Palmetto Health and Wellness campus to be located in the Nexton development just off Interstate 26.
The first phase of the project to be completed in two years includes two medical office buildings. There also will be an ambulatory surgery center, a 24-hour emergency unit and a fitness and rehabilitation center.
The developers say the project will mean more than 1,100 new jobs. Gov. Nikki Haley was to be at today's announcement in Summerville but organizers said she took ill.
