EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- At an annual shark tournament, a fisherman just missed the deadline to enter a massive 14-foot, 1,100-pound tiger shark.

?According to the South Carolina Sportsman?, Cal Young and his three-man crew pulled in the shark and worked their way back to the docks at Edisto Watersports and Tackle.

Unfortunately, the crew was too late for the deadline to enter it in the contest.

Young told the SC Sportsman they fought the shark for nearly two hours about 20 miles off the coast. Young said they were concerned the shark would tip their 25-foot center console boat, so they opted to drag the shark at low speed behind the boat.

According to SC Sportsman, Young made it back to the dock at 9 p.m. and officials tried to hang the shark from the scale at the dock but its nose was still resting on the dock.

When they hung it off the dock, the shark's nose was in the water because of the incoming tide, the website reports.
