SANTEE, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina is spending more than $1 million to upgrade Santee State Park.
Park Manager Nathan Maiwald told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (http://bit.ly/1oKA9uj ) that $300,000 will be spent on a new septic system.
The park on Lake Marion will also spend $750,000 to improve 50 campsites and restrooms and pave additional roads in the park.
Maiwald says the work will begin this winter with hopes to finish before the park reaches its busy season next spring. The State Budget and Control Board approved the projects.
Santee State Park gets about 200,000 visitors a year.
