BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two homeless people have been arrested in connection to a Tuesday night house fire in Berkeley County.

According to Dan Moon with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, the two homeless people were squatting in the Myers Road home and started a fire when they got cold. The fire got out of control and they fled the home.

Deputies arrested the man and woman at a nearby bingo parlor a short time later. They were identified as 32-year-old Jessie James Jennings and 26-year-old Lea Renae Miller.

Officials said the man and woman did not intentionally burn down the house.

According to an incident report, a passerby flagged down a deputy to report seeing a strange man and woman at a bingo parlor. By the time the deputy arrived, another deputy had taken Miller into custody for disorderly conduct.

Jennings was hiding in a bathroom, the report states.

Jennings and Miller are being held at Hill-Finklea Detention Center on charges of trespassing, negligently allowing a fire to damage land or property of another and public disorderly conduct.{}
