27 cats, 2 of them dead, found in SC mobile home

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A Myrtle Beach couple is in jail charged with animal cruelty after 27 cats were found in their mobile home. Two of the cats were dead.

Authorities say 54-year-old Debra Elaine Goulding and 51-year-old William Joseph Goulding were arrested Sunday. It was not clear if they have an attorney.

Authorities had responded to reports of cats living in an abandoned mobile home.

They removed 25 of the cats, 14 of which were so sick they had to be put to sleep. One of the dead cats was found inside a recliner; the other on a couch. Officers said there may have been additional cats living in the walls.

The police report said a bedroom was closed off from the cats where it appeared the couple had been living.
