CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The 3-year-old moratorium on red snapper fishing in the Southeast is being lifted this weekend.
Fishermen in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida will again be able to catch red snapper, but only from Friday through Sunday.
Biologists in all the states will be checking the fish caught to gather information about the size and sex of the fish and better determine next year's red snapper populations.
The moratorium on catching red snapper was instituted in waters off the four states back in 2010 because of concerns they were being overfished.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
