Police charge 3 teens who say they were kidnapped, sexually assaulted
WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- Three teen girls told police they were kidnapped and nearly raped outside a Walterboro apartment complex early Saturday morning, but police have now charged them with filing a false report.
According to the incident report, the three girls told police they were abducted at gunpoint by an unknown man. The man tried to rape one of the girls, the report states, but she was able to fend him off.
The three girls -- all under the age of 16 -- were taken to Colleton Medical Center for examination.
According to an updated release Wednesday, the girls said they were at a party where four men approached them. Later they said they were home at Edisto Terrace Apartments when a car pulled up with the same four men inside and that's when they were held at gunpoint and attacked.
The girls then reportedly said the men took them to Walmart and forced them out of the car.
Police say they watched surveillance cameras at the Walmart in question and found "inconsistencies" in the victims' statements. After another interview, police said the girls admitted to making the whole thing up.
All three are now charged with filing a false police report.
