$3.5 million awarded to family in wrongful death suit
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- The driver of a car involved in a fatal accident five years ago has been ordered to pay the victim's family $3.5 million.
According to the victim's family's attorney, a Berkeley County jury awarded the estate of Wanda Malmede Holland $3.5 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against Chad Kessing, Sr.
The accident happened around 12:42 p.m. on May 12, 2008.
An attorney with the McLeod Law Group said Kessing crossed the center line of Highway 17-A and crashed head-on into Holland's Chevy Trailblazer, killing her on impact.
The attorney also said that Kessing's drivers license had been revoked twice before.
The jury returned a verdict for $500,000 actual damages and $3,000,000 in punitive damages against Kessing.
