LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) -- A Lancaster man has been arrested after police say four children climbed out of the trunk of his car at the Lancaster Christmas parade.
Authorities say 33-year-old William Trey Benton was arrested Saturday after police noticed him driving a car with the wrong license plate. When officers were arresting him, the trunk of the car he was driving opened, and four children hopped out.
Police say the youngest child was 11. None of them were hurt.
Police say Benton told them he was taking "the family" to the parade. Benton said he didn't have a driver's license but planned to switch seats with his son, who has a permit.
Benton faces charges including child endangerment and possession of stolen property. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
