FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Four veterans whose remains were unclaimed have been buried at the Florence National Cemetery.
Veterans and veteran's organizations as well as community members gathered at the cemetery for the burials Thursday organized by the Missing In America Project.
The project works to locate, identify and bury unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans.
On Thursday, the cremated remains of Navy Seaman Charles Bryce Carrick, machinery repairman 3rd Class Joseph Robert Ochlech and Marine Corps veterans Pfc. Aluster Lee Farmer and Pvt. David Earl Newens were buried.
They were unclaimed after having died in Horry County.
Officials with the project say the veterans may have been homeless, estranged from their families or have no surviving family members.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
