7 hurt; 10 homes destroyed in Florence storm

QUINBY, S.C. (AP) -- A storm destroyed at least nine homes and damaged eight others at a mobile home park in Florence County.

At least seven people were hurt in the storm Tuesday night. No deaths have been reported.

The emergency medical services director says none of the injuries are life threatening, mostly just cuts and bruises.

Sheriff's Capt. Mike Nunn says nine other homes are being evaluated for possible damage.

Rick Kreitner with the National Weather Service Office in Wilmington, N.C., says the storm hit shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday east of Quinby.

Kreitner says a team will check Wednesday to determine whether the damage was caused by a tornado or thunderstorm winds.

The American Red Cross set up a shelter at Wilson High School for those affected by the storm.
