ST. STEPHEN, S.C. (WCIV) - Caleb Fortney was more than a prom date to Dana Woodshe was also her former fiance.
"I miss her to death," said Fortney, 18. He says he thinks of Dana often since her murder.
"I wish I would have told her sometimes how I felt," he said. "I was really laid back and I never opened up. So there are a lot of things I wish I would have told her, but she's in a better place."
Fortney says he also knew June Guerry since he was 8 years old. They were all close friends.
He said when Jennifer Hill, Dana's mother, told him the girls never returned home the night before, he knew something horrible had gone wrong.
Fortney says he didn't know Caleb Matlock and Arthur Chavis who have been arrested in the double murder. While their arrests have brought him some closure, it hasn't taken away all the pain.
"I never thought this would happen never. You realize what you have once it's gone," he said.
Investigators say robbery was the motivean answer that Fortney says doesn't justify taking away innocent lives.
"How in your right mind can you do this to two girls that have done nothing to you?" Fortney asked.
