CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The AAA Carolinas' list of South Carolinas' top substandard bridges is again led by six bridges on Interstate 26, all of them originally built at least a half century ago.
The Charlotte, North Carolina, motor club released Wednesday its list of the top 20 substandard bridges in the state.
The top six bridges on the list are again on Interstate 26 in Lexington, Richland and Charleston counties, the same as last year. Bridges are rated based on Department of Transportation data and factoring in traffic volume.
The list is again topped by the I-26 bridge just northwest of Columbia that carries the interstate across the CSX Railroad.
That bridge is considered structurally deficient. That means it is in relatively poor condition and/or inadequate to handle the weight of trucks.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
