HOLLYWOOD, S.C. (WCIV) -- New affordable rental options are coming soon to the town of Hollywood.

Phase one of the Holly Grove Subdivision is complete and members of the community celebrated during the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.

There are just two duplexes now, but eventually this street will be filled with more.

"We found that this was necessary in our community as our residents, some of them were leaving out of the community being displaced in other communities because they weren't able to find affordable rental units," said Mayor Jacquelyn Heyward of Hollywood.

The 20 duplexes will provide housing for 40 families. The first two units will be finished soon, but there are no tenants lined up yet although there has been plenty of interest.

"Approximate rent will be in the neighborhood of $650 to $800," said Heyward. "It is way below the market rent and also below the median rent for the town of Hollywood, which is right now over $1000."

And this may be just the ticket to bring people back to this quaint little town in Charleston County.

"Hollywood is just a great place to live. It's wonderful to be a part of a community that is in the process of transitioning," said Rev. Keith Hunter of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hollywood.

The completion date for the entire Holly Grove Subdivision is unknown. It is being done in different phases{}because of funding.
