Airmen to deliver supplies to Haiti

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- An estimated 8,000 Haitians will benefit from the donated supplies.

Reservists from the 315th Airlift Wing are scheduled to deliver more than 80,000 pounds of humanitarian aid to Haiti this weekend. The mission involves a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft delivering food to orphanages along with a dump truck and excavator to assist in clearing debris and reconstruction.

Officials with Joint Base Charleston say the mission is made possible by the Denton Amendment, a state department program allowing the delivery of donated humanitarian aid to fly on Air Force assets on a space available basis.
