ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (AP) - A 9 1/2-foot alligator has been captured on the beach at the Isle of Palms.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the alligator was captured Sunday morning near Wild Dunes Resort after startling some joggers.
The wildlife regional coordinator for the state Department of Natural Resources says its location was unusual because alligators usually don't like saltwater. Sam Chappelear says recent heavy rains may be the cause, because there's freshwater in places typically without it.
He says the gator was euthanized as policy dictates, because alligators typically return to their last location even after they've been moved.
