Ant infestation closes Columbia elementary school

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Children at a Columbia elementary school are getting and extra day off because of ants.

Richland School District 1 officials said they are closing Bradley Elementary School on Tuesday so exterminators can fight the ants with no children or teachers in the building.

Richland 1 Superintendent Percy Mack says officials will talk to the exterminators after the treatments and see if it is safe for students to return Wednesday.

All other schools in the district will be open.
