SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man is dead following a tractor-trailer accident near mile marker 199 on I-26.

At 6:15 p.m., officials with the SCHP said only one lane in each direction was open to traffic. Officers said crews were still working the scene and that the tractor-trailer overturned and caught fire.

Witnesses at the scene say a tractor-trailer drifted into the median and then ran into the trees on the eastbound side of the interstate. They say at least one person was airlifted to a local hospital.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said 52-year-old Clyde Bennett of Augusta, Ga. was pronounced dead at the scene. He said the accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The accident is being investigated by the coroner's office, SCHP, and the State Transport Police. Salisbury said the death is ruled accidental with the cause of death as head and body trauma. Salisbury said Bennett was wearing his seatbelt.

There was also a wreck on I-26 in the area of Midland Park that happened at about the same time in which an SUV caught fire.
