'Facebook Forums' aim to keep students safe online

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Attorney General Alan Wilson is taking up the issue of cyber-security. This week South Carolina's top prosecutor will be taking the campaign for online safety for students across the state and right here to the Lowcountry.

In what's being called 'Facebook Forums,' the Attorney General will be joined by Facebook representatives for a series of Internet safety forums. On the agenda will be discussions on online predators, the reach of online profiles, and the implications of sexting and cyber-bullying.

Event organizers say Facebook Representative, Brooke Oberwetter, will talk at the forums about the tools Facebook has available to report abusive or suspicious content. She also will tackle the topic of how parents can utilize privacy settings to protect their kids online.

The 'Facebook Forums' start Monday in Columbia, Lexington, and Aiken. Talks in the Lowcountry will start on Tuesday at the following location and times:

10:00 a.m. Rollings Middle School of the Arts, Auditorium

815 South Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483

2:00 p.m. Wando High School, Auditorium

7:00 p.m. Ashley Hall School, Auditorium
