Author Conroy named to Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Author Pat Conroy is among the five people who comprise the newest class of the Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame.

Conroy played basketball at the Citadel from 1965-67. His book, "My Losing Season," is about his experiences with the Bulldogs.

Also named are Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr., former all-Southern Conference football player Mike Davitt, baseball standouts Hank Craft and Rodney Hancock, and former wrestler Dan Thompson.

Induction is scheduled for Nov. 14.

Conroy averaged 11.8 points a game his senior year and was voted the team's most valuable player. He went on to fame as an author with the military college as a backdrop in several books. He and the school ended a two-decade estrangement in 2002, and Conroy has attended several games and school functions.
