Authorities call off search for missing Myrtle Beach surfer

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - A search has been called off for a teenage surfer missing in choppy waters off North Myrtle Beach.

Authorities told the family of a 19-year-old man on Saturday morning that they would pull back from their search that has involved boats, jet skis and helicopters.

The teen went missing on Friday afternoon after Tropical Storm Andrea moved through the Cherry Grove area. North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling said the surfer and his brother went into the water together, and the teen's board later washed ashore.

The teen has not been identified.

Strong winds and seas were expected along parts of the South Carolina coast Saturday. Officials warned all swimmers to be wary of rip currents.
