Azalea Society of America meeting in Charleston
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Just as azaleas are blooming along the South Carolina coast, leading gardeners from across the nation are gathering in Charleston for the annual meeting of the Azalea Society of America.
About 150 people are expected for the sessions that begin Wednesday and continue through Sunday.
Topics will include discussions of when azaleas were first planted outside, the state of the azalea industry and growing azaleas in the cold.
Those attending will also take tours of the area's Ashley River plantations and even get lessons in the shag, South Carolina's state dance.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
