Bail set for former firefighter accused in murder-for-hire plot

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Bail was set a former City of Charleston firefighter accused of trying to hire an undercover cop to kill his wife.

A judge set bail at $100,000 Friday for Edward Clinton Jones

Jones was arrested Dec. 31 and charged with solicitation to commit murder.

The arrest came after the Charleston Police Department set up an undercover operation in which Jones solicited an undercover officer to murder his wife for $10,000, according to officials.

Jones was a Charleston firefighter from 1991-2009 and retired after 18 years of service.
