Bank robbery investigated just blocks away from sheriff's office

      NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- North Charleston police have identified a man who allegedly robbed a bank on Rivers Avenue Thursday morning.

      According to officials, it happened at the First Citizen's Bank located less than a block from a North Charleston Police Department substation and just a couple of blocks from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

      Clarence Anthony King, 55, of Token Street, was arrested, police said Thursday afternoon.

      Employees told police a black male wearing a white shirt, jeans, a cap and sunglasses approached the teller, showed a hand gun and demanded money. Police say the teller complied and King fled the bank with an undetermined{}amount of money.

      A short time later, police say they found a man fitting the description of the suspect on Arbutus Street in the Union Heights neighborhood. Police tell us the subject fled when they approached him but was apprehended.{}

      Officers recovered the bag with money and weapon believed to be used in the robbery and arrested King. They report he also had a change of clothes, sunglasses and a black cap.{}

      Police believe King may have left the crime scene in a black Mercedes and they are searching for the vehicle and driver.
