Battery's Patterson joins Ottowa Fury FC

      CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It looks like Nikki Patterson will not return to play midfield for the Charleston Battery soccer team in 2014.

      Patterson was announced as the first-ever signing for Ottawa Fury FC Tuesday pending international transfer. Patterson signed a two-year contract with Ottawa after spending the last three seasons with the Battery, where he helped lead Charleston to a 2012 USL PRO Championship.{}

      In 2012, Paterson scored 12 goals and added 2 assists in all competitions; his two-year totals with the Battery now include 20 goals and 6 assists in 56 games played. Paterson was named to the 2012 USL PRO All-League First Team.

      Patterson registered the most points in the league during his time in Charleston with 30 goals and 10 assists.

      Patterson was named to the USL PRO First Team a season ago after finishing with 10 goals and 4 assists. Two of his three years as a member of the Battery, Patterson was named the team's Most Valuable Player and Offensive MVP.

      Paterson was a member of Scottish side Motherwell's youth academy but his first senior contract was with Scotland's Hamilton Academicals. In 2005, Paterson moved to the U.S. to attend and play for the University of Nevada Las Vegas where he was a four-year starter.

      After college Paterson joined the Harrisburg City Islanders in 2009 before switching to the Real Maryland Monarchs for the 2010 season.

      He then signed a short term contract with Scottish 2nd division Clyde FC before moving to the Battery at the start of the 2011 season.
