BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - It appears Beaufort County School District athletes may have to pay to play in the school year that begins in August 2015.
The Beaufort Gazette reports that (http://bit.ly/1uuPIWBa ) the county school district is considering passing the cost of athletic insurance on to students.
The district recently negotiated an almost $300,000 insurance contract. If the costs of a similar contract were passed on next year, it would mean each of the more than 4,000 athletes in the district would have to pay about $70 a year.
District officials say they are looking for cheaper options and for ways to subsidize what it charges students.
