Beaufort deputies make arrest in Food Lion robbery

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Deputies arrested a man in connection to a strong armed robbery of a Beaufort County grocery store on Monday.

According to the sheriff's office, 57-year-old Forrest Eugene Tucker turned himself in to officials Tuesday afternoon. He had been previously identified as the man who stole a wallet from a victim's shopping cart Monday morning at a Food Lion.

The victim, a 79-year-old woman, told officers that a black man had approached her while she was in the meat department and tried to snatch her purse. Because the purse was strapped into the cart, he was only able to get away with the wallet, a report states.

Other customers gave chase, deputies said, but were not able to catch Tucker before he drove away in a Toyota SUV. However, they took down the license plate and gave that to deputies, the report states.

Tucker is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center.
