Beaufort says water will clear up
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Utility officials say tap water in northern Beaufort County should be back to normal soon.
The Beaufort Gazette reported that the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority says the water should have a normal taste and small soon.
The utility says on Sunday it stopped using water from its reservoir, where a chemical caused by algae created an earthy or musty taste as the water left the Chelsea Water Treatment Plant in Okatie.
The authority is now taking water from a canal at the plant and says the water is returning to its normal taste and odor.
Authority spokesman Matt Brady says the chemical causing the odor and taste is not harmful.
But he says the utility has had about 200 complaints in the past two months.
