Berkeley County awarded more money for road widening projects

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- Berkeley County is being awarded $27.5 million in funding for road improvements, the county announced Monday.

The money additional money was granted by the Charleston Area Transportation Study (CHATS) committee.

The Clements Ferry Road Phase 1 and College Parks Road widening projects qualified for the funding.

"Berkeley County met the requirements for funding because we had eligible projects already in progress," said Dan Davis, Berkeley County Supervisor. "I want to thank and credit the citizens of Berkeley County who voted for the one-cent sales tax referendum in 2008.{} This will allow us to expand the scope of our transportation sales tax program. The additional $27.5 million would not have been possible without the confidence of our voters and support of our ambitious staff to initiate the promised road improvements."
