Bikers and walkers already enjoying new Ben Sawyer pathway

      SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Construction is finished and bicyclists and walkers are already out in full force enjoying the new Ben Sawyer Causeway multi-use path. The improvement project added approximately a mile and a half of wider pathway for bicyclist and walkers.{}The new path begins at Simmons Pointe Road in Mount Pleasant, goes over the Ben Sawyer Bridge, and ends at the existing concrete sidewalk on Sullivan's Island. The new pathway widened the existing path to eight feet to accommodate more bicycle and pedestrian users.{}The project broke ground in January and officials had originally planned on a May opening date.{}Charleston County Government will mark the completion of the Ben Sawyer multi-use path on Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Gold Bug Island at 1560 Ben Sawyer Blvd.
