Blood drive winner wants to give back

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- We have a winner! And this woman knows first hand the importance of donating blood.

ABC News Four, the Red Cross, and Chik-Fil-A teamed up 2 weeks ago for a blood drive. Nearly 400 people came out, and each had a chance to enter a drawing to win free Chik-Fil-A for a year.

Elizabeth Litton won the contest. But she recently suffered a huge loss.

Her husband Edwin Litton died in March from esophageal cancer. "I remember my 5 year old saying I don't want to bury my daddy and my 8 year old saying I can't let my daddy die," she said.

But the 31 year old Marine was able to live longer, thanks to chemotherapy and several blood transfusions. She knows the difference a donation can make, and that's why she gave.

For everyone who turned out, she simply wants to say, "thanks"-- a gift of gratitude for the gift of life.
