Bluffton Republicans raffling AR-15 rifle

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - The Greater Bluffton Republican Club is looking for more members and money.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports ( the club has decided to conduct a raffle with a grand prize of an AR-15 rifle. The prize includes two 30-round magazines and a shooting lesson.

Each $10 contribution buys one entry into a drawing. Only 500 entries will be accepted and about half of them have already been sold.

Vice president Marcie Flynn says the club is looking to grow, getting money and media attention.

Winners must be at least 18 years old and must pass a background check to win the gun.

Sales of AR-15s have surged since shootings in Connecticut and Colorado amid fears the federal government would try to ban such weapons.
