Board votes to recommend new school board member

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston County School Board moved one step closer Tuesday to gaining a new member.

At a Joint Delegation meeting, state lawmakers agreed to recommend Todd Garrett for the open position on the board.{}

The recommendation will go to Gov. Nikki Haley, who will ultimately make the decision regarding whom to appoint.{}

Former board member Toya Hampton Green announced in August she would resign because of a move to Columbia.

Garrett received the most votes from the delegation, followed by Tony Lewis and Joan Cannon.{}
