Boat manufacturer expects to bring 150 jobs to Dorchester County

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) - Sportsman Boats Manufacturing is investing $3.5 million to double the size of its Summerville facility.

According to the saltwater fishing boats manufacturer, the 74,000-square-foot facility located on 113 Isaac Way in Summerville will be expanded by approximately 116,000 square feet to accommodate growing demand of the company's product line.

"Sportsman Boats is a great South Carolina company and represents the strong entrepreneurial spirit the people of our state have," said Gov. Nikki Haley. "We commend their $3.5 million investment, which will create another 150 jobs in Dorchester County and look forward to their continued success in the Lowcountry and throughout South Carolina."

Sportsman's Boats Manufacturing officials said the products offered includes 10 models ranging in size from 20 to 25 feet that are center consoles, bay boats and dual console boats designed for saltwater fishermen.

The company said it plans to launch several new models in the near future.

"Sportsman began in South Carolina only two years ago and is already doubling its footprint - further proving that we are just right for business and just right for new developments and manufacturing innovations," said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. "If this is how much they have grown in just two years, I can't wait to see what the future has in store for Sportsman and South Carolina's business relationship."
