Boeing signs on as title sponsor of Lt. Dan Band concert

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Boeing announced this week it would serve as the title sponsor of the Lt. Dan Band benefit concert for the Independence Fund.

The Sept. 14 concert at Johnson Hagood Stadium in downtown Charleston raises money for the Independence Fund, a combat veteran-run charity that helps other veterans with assistance through therapy, guidance and medical funding.

"It's a big step forward for this all volunteer effort to support the troops," said Charleston resident Lisa Sternke, an Independence Fund volunteer who is married to a disabled veteran and who coordinated the Boeing sponsorship for LDW4 over the past two months.

Gary Sinise's band, the Lt. Dan Band, headlines the concert.

"Having the support of a leading company like Boeing does so much to help move forward our efforts to help these servicemen and their families as much as we can. American Airlines, who currently flies an all-Boeing fleet of aircraft, has been a great partner to the Gary Sinise{}Foundation's efforts for more than five years, and we couldn't be more appreciative of both organizations," Sinise said.

Along with the concert, there is also a Friday night Party in the Park at Brittlebank Park. More than 200 wounded veterans will be honored at the event which will include free food and music for everyone in attendance.

There will also be a Saturday morning bike ride and a 5K run at the stadium.

"This is a chance for the greater Charleston community to show the rest of the country what "Support the Troops" really means," said Independence Fund board member and severely injured veteran, Sergeant Major Jesse Acosta, USA (ret.). "We can't wait to see that happen!"
