Fire department: Rivers Avenue white powder cleared

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The bomb squad was called to a North Charleston business after a suspicious package was found.{}

According to North Charleston police, officers and fire crews were on the 7000 block of Rivers Avenue awaiting the arrival of the bomb squad around 3 p.m. Thursday. Fire officials said the package contains a white, powder-like substance.{}

Fire officials said the substance was found outside the Low Country Property Management office and has been cleared by the HazMat team. It is now in police custody, officials said.

Police say two lanes of Rivers Avenue had been shut down and all lanes of the roadway were closed when the bomb squad arrived.{}
