CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It's the end of a month-long campaign to fight hunger and the winner is the Lowcountry Food Bank.The Border to Border Hunger Challenge is a statewide matching campaign designed to help the South Carolina Food Bank Association (SCFBA) raise funds to feed hungry families during their most difficult and demanding time of year.
"This was of particular interest to us because of the needs of the food bank and deserving constituencies in South Carolina," said Len Hutchison, Charleston Market President at Wells Fargo. "There's a huge need here. We saw that, and our employees got motivated about it. That's why we got involved."
During the one month campaign, the four food banks in the SCFBA (Golden Harvest Food Bank, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Lowcountry Food Bank and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina) raised a total of $406,103 in donations.
Combined with a $150,000 match from Wells Fargo, the total for the campaign came to $556,103 which will provide SCFBA members the resources to distribute more than 2,780,500 meals.
