Breast cancer survivors 'bag' it at annual Komen luncheon

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- There was a reason for breast cancer survivors and their families to celebrate Sunday afternoon.

Hundreds of people attended the Komen Lowcountry annual survivor celebration luncheon to honor survivors and those who lost their battles with breast cancer.

The theme of this year's luncheon was "It's all in the bag," and women were asked to be creative and decorate their purses as a way to show what it would mean to bag breast cancer once and for all.

"One year I had a young survivor who said, 'I really didn't think I was going to come, but I did and I'm so glad because I have hope. I'm not looking around at 25- and 30- and 40-year survivors. I have hope.' So if we do nothing else but give people hope, we have accomplished a lot.," said Taffy Tamblyn, the executive director for Lowcountry Komen.

ABC News 4's Victoria Hansen was the emcee for the event.
