Bulldogs practice in pads for second day

CHARLESTON, S.C. (CIT) - The fourth day of Citadel football camp gave a closer look at the 2013 team as the Bulldogs practiced in shoulder pads and helmets for the second consecutive morning at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field.

Team Captain and Defensive Back Brandon McCladdie after Day 4:

"It is an honor being selected captain by my teammates and it shows that they respect me on and off the field."

"It is a lot of teaching right now in these first few days. We have three new freshmen corners, and we are just trying to get them to watch us and mimic us and we are doing all we can to show them the right way."

"I think everyone is excited to get the full pads on and be able to get some hits in."

The team will return to action tomorrow morning from 8-10:30 a.m. for its final practice with just shoulder pads and helmets. Full pad practices begin on Saturday from 8-10:15 a.m.

The Bulldogs will take a break from practice this Sunday to sign autographs and talk with the fans at the annual Coke Zero Meet the Bulldogs Day at Johnson Hagood Stadium starting at 2 p.m.

During the 1 1/2-hour event, fans will be provided with posters, schedule cards and light refreshments, provided by Aramark. The team's stadium locker room will be open for walk throughs, and the new Bulldog puppies will be on hand to socialize and enjoy their first Coke Zero Meet the Bulldogs event.

The Citadel will then return to the field on Monday as two-a-days begin with a morning practice from 8-10:15 a.m., followed by an afternoon session from 3:15-5:15 p.m.

The Bulldogs will conduct their first full scrimmage of preseason camp on Aug. 17 at 1:15 at Johnson Hagood Stadium. The scrimmage will be free and open to the public.

The Citadel will open up the 2013 campaign on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at home against crosstown foe Charleston Southern.{} To purchase single game or season tickets, call the ticket office at (843) 953-DOGS (3647).
