Cadets make march to Marion Square for Recognition Day

CHARLESTON,S.C. (WCIV) - Freshman cadets at The Citadel made their symbolic march toMarion Square on Saturday as part of Recognition Day.

For theknobs, the march down King Street means the end of their highly regimented lifestyleon the military college's campus. The day started with physical training testsand culminated in the march into downtown Charleston dressed in their dresswhite uniforms.

Tourists andlocals alike lined the streets to watch the cadets march.

Once theyarrived at Marion Square, the group took the oath renewal on the Citadel green.Marion Square used to be home to The Citadel before the school moved to itscurrent location.

MarionSquare, though, is the college's original parade ground.

The marchmarks the end of a three-week transition period for the freshmen.
