Carnival worker charged in sex abuse

      GADSDEN, Ala. (WBMA) -- A Georgia man is facing sexual abuse charges in Etowah County, Ala.

      George Michael Smith, of Eatonton, Ga., was arrested on an indictment for sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.{}He is charged in connection to an incident that took place July 17, 2012 in Gadsden, Ala.

      Smith is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on $10,000 cash bond.{}The charge is a felony for the 30-year-old man.

      "Smith was arrested by the Putman County Sheriff's Office in Georgia," said investigator Haydyn Hedgspeth. "He worked with a traveling carnival, which moved frequently."Etowah County Sheriff's deputies assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force aided in locating Smith. {}
