COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/WCIV) - The Carrier Classic will return to the USS Yorktown to open the college basketball season despite last weekend's canceled contest between Ohio State and Marquette.

Morale Entertainment President Mike Whalen said Monday his group and the Patriots Point Development Authority have agreed to hold the event again next year.

"We expect and intend to be back here in 2012 on November 8th for the third edition of the Carrier Classic," said Whalen.{} "We're in contract negotions with the Patriots Point Board."

This year's men's contest on Friday night between the fourth-ranked Buckeyes and the Golden Eagles was called off when condensation on the court made it too dangerous for the players.

There were no complications earlier Friday when Notre Dame women defeated Ohio State 57-51 in a Top 25 matchup on the carrier's converted flight deck.

Whalen says organizers believe they have an engineering solution to correct the condensation issue. He's heard from about 10 schools interested in taking part next year.

Patriots Point Executive Director, Mac Burdette, looks forward to next year's game and says it's a win for South Carolina.

"The opportunity of what this brings to South Carolina and the Charleston community and Patriots Point is incredible," he said. "Mike and I have also talked about the possibility of expanding it to a full weekend venue with all sorts of things."
