CARTA to give out free bus passes weekly

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- CARTA is kicking off its summer campaign of Free Pass Tuesdays. All summer long, CARTA will be giving away free bus tickets weekly.

CARTA spokesman Daniel Brock says that every Tuesday free bus passes will be given away at randomly selected CARTA bus stops around the Lowcountry.

"It could be West Ashley, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant -- you never know where we will pop up," Brock said. "It could happen anytime of the day, but I suggest people check out our Facebook page and Twitter account, @RideCarta, for clues of where we might be."

The giveaway is a way for CARTA to thank its regular riders as well as draw in new people to the public transportation system.

"There is two main motivations behind this. One is to reward our regular riders everyday taking the CARTA bus and using transportation," Brock said. Two is, we are in a situation where we have 1300 new people moving to the region each month and this is a way to raise awareness about CARTA and public transportation and get them on the bus, so to speak."
